Venue: Stade de France, Saint-Denis
Date: Friday, June 10
Hosts France kick off the EURO 2016 against Group A rivals Romania. While the opener may not be decisive, it is important to get off to a winning start in a big tournament.
Les Blues have a fantastic record when it comes to playing at home at high-profile events. The French fans will remember their team’s triumph at Euro 1984 and of course the 1998 World Cup.
Romania will be no pushovers though. Anghel Iordănescu’s men remained unbeaten through their qualifying campaign, winning and drawing five games each.
The Romanians are excellent at the back and will be tough to break down. Coming into the Euros, they conceded just two goals in 10 games.
France are of course the favorites going into this match. Paul Pogba will pull the strings for the team in midfield and will be the player to watch out for.
The home side is unbeaten against Romania in their last 10 meetings. Interestingly, the French team failed to win four of their last five encounters against Romania.
The last time Romania beat France was way back in April 1972.
Possible starting XIs:
